New Gastropub Coming to Downtown Clawson

The closing of The Black Lotus in the heart of downtown Clawson opened the door for Clawsonites Tyler and Andrea to create a local hangout spot by and for Clawson residents. The new owners of the space at 14 and Main wanted to bring in a new and fun concept that would honor Clawson’s history and bring people together. With Pumachug, they are doing just that.

The name “pumachug” is a throwback to the town’s nickname since at least 1892, “Pumachug and the Corners,” which references the combined sounds of the sawmill and cider mill that once graced the intersection.

True to their mission of creating a space for the people, Pumachug owners sent out a survey to see what patrons wanted – and they listened to the results. 3,700 people responded to the survey, 734 of whom mentioned pizza. So, Pumachug will now feature a wood fired pizza oven. Look for a drink menu featuring stiff cocktails, IPAs, and Cabernet Sauvignon (the most popular responses for beer and wine), and a food menu offering high quality bar food with vegetarian and healthy options.

Pumachug is set to open in August 2020, and they are now hiring all positions.
