The world’s largest free jazz festival is back in downtown Detroit over Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 29 – Sept. 1, 2025. The iconic event brings together legendary artists, emerging talents, and passionate jazz enthusiasts for four days of unforgettable music and cultural celebration.
The Festival is currently accepting applications for artists interested in performing as part of the event, submissions can be submitted through their website until June 1, 2025.
Experience mesmerizing sets across multiple stages from jazz legends and rising stars, including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Diana Krall, Kamasi Washington, and Cecile McLorin Salvant. The Festival will celebrate Detroit’s vibrant jazz scene featuring performances by local jazz bands and emerging artists.
Between performances, check out a variety of gourmet food options from local favorites to international cuisines and engage in hands-on sessions led by renowned musicians, exploring various jazz styles and techniques.
This year’s Artist-in-Residence is Jason Moran, an acclaimed pianist, composer, and artistic director of jazz at The Kennedy Center. Moran will lead multiple performances during the festival and support educational initiatives across the region. His innovative approach to jazz, blending multimedia and theatrical elements, promises to offer audiences a unique and enriching experience.
